It was started in 1998 by the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, an international health care and social service Religious organization that has been in India since 1969. This special School was started in a small way and today it has grown to be one of the best Special Schools in India.

New structures were inaugurated in 2003. The new facilities comprise a spacious modern and well-equipped school, comfortable yet homely Hostels for different age groups and sexes, Canteens, Chapel, Vocational Training Centre, Indoor & Outdoor hydrotherapy facilities, Music, Arts, Physiotherapy, Counselling, and excellent sports facilities. The Special School and Vocational Training Centre together have 230 students. Of these about 170 are residents or boarders. Others are day scholars.
