Mikavu 2k24 Annual Day and P.T.A. Meeting

The annual day and P.T. A meeting was held on March 23rd of 2024 and the children at the residential homes went back to their native places. Moreover, the school is closed for the summer vacation.

During this time, the school grounds fell quiet as the laughter and chatter of students faded away. The classrooms, once bustling with eager learners, now sat empty and still. Outside, the playground lay silent, with swings swaying gently in the breeze and the slides waiting patiently for the joyful shouts of children to return. The halls were empty and the classrooms unoccupied, the memories of the past school year lingered in the air. From the excitement of the first day of school to the hard work and dedication of both teachers and students, the echoes of a year filled with learning, growth, and friendship resonated throughout the vacant school building.

As the school awaited the return of students in the upcoming academic year, it stood as a silent witness to the countless moments of discovery, inspiration, and achievement that had taken place within its walls. The summer vacation was a time for rest and rejuvenation, but soon enough, the school would once again come alive with the energy and enthusiasm of a new school year on the horizon.

Celebration of St. John of God Feast Reverberates at St. John of God Centre, Velloor

On the 8th of March 2024, a wave of jubilation swept through St. John of God Centre, Velloor, as the community came together to commemorate the feast of its revered patron, St. John of God, the founder of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God. The day commenced with a solemn and reverent Holy Mass, where prayers were offered in honour of St. John of God, whose life was dedicated to serving the sick, needy, and marginalised. Attendees, including residents, staff, and well-wishers, filled the chapel with a sense of devotion and gratitude for the saint's enduring legacy of compassion and charity. Following the Mass, the spirit of camaraderie and fellowship continued as everyone gathered for a communal meal. Delicious food, prepared with love and care, was shared amongst attendees, fostering a sense of unity and togetherness within the St. John of God community. Fr. Francis Mannaparambil, the director of St. John of God Centre, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all who participated in the celebration, emphasizing the importance of St. John of God's teachings in guiding their mission of providing care and support to those in need. Honoring Ceremony for Harikrishnan Omanakuttan's Remarkable Achievement

In a heartwarming ceremony held at St. John of God Special School, Harikrishnan Omanakuttan was celebrated for his exceptional triumph at the National Powerlifting Championship. Harikrishnan, a student at the school, clinched two gold medals and a silver medal in the prestigious competition organized by Special Olympics Bharath (SOB) in Uttar Pradesh. The ceremony, attended by students, and faculty, resonated with applause and admiration for Harikrishnan's remarkable feat. His dedication, perseverance, and sheer talent in powerlifting have not only brought pride to his school but also served as an inspiration to the entire community.

The director of St. John of God Special School, Fr. Francis Mannaparambil, expressed his pride in Harikrishnan's accomplishments, highlighting his determination and spirit as exemplary qualities for all students to emulate. National Powerlifting Champion Mr. Harikrishnan

Harikrishnan Omanakuttan, a student of St. John of God Special School, became the pride of Kerala by winning 2 gold medals and a silver medal in the National Powerlifting Championship, which is a precursor to the Special Olympics International Games. Contestants came from 16 states. Kerala has won the most gold medals. Congratulations Harikrishnan Omanakuttan

PAID District members visit at St. John of God Special School

The District Members of PAID (Parents Association For the Intellectually Disabled) visited at St. John of God Special School on the 28th of February 2024. The meeting was about the problems that the families of intellectually challenged children face from the side of the government. The scholarships and pension amounts are not being provided by the government. What should be done in the future as part of it? After all the meetings it is decided to take social action movements as part of getting the rights of intellectually disabled ones done.

Tour Programs

22/01/2024-On this day the tour package was planned for the students in the St. John of God specially for the Day Scholars and Maria Home. The Students visited Marine World, Alappuzha. They had visited mainly the 'Fish World', Park and they had enjoyed the food time. They had started the tour program at 9.30 am from the St. John of God. And at the evening they had returned to the school. They enjoyed the tour program and utilized it.

23/01/2024- It's the day for the students from the Menni Home. They also visited the same place 'Marine World Alappuzha'. They visited the fish world, and park and enjoyed the food time. They enjoyed every moment with everyone and they were happy at the end of the day.

31/01/2024- On this day the tour package had been planned for the students from Richard Home and Donatus Home. They had visited the place 'Mango Meadows ', Kaduthuruthi. They visited the Park's Agricultural theme, boating, shooting, and fishing, and enjoyed the food time. They enjoyed the day with everyone.

02/02/2024- On this day the tour had been planned for the Tharavadu Home. They visited the Kumarakom for boating. They had enjoyed the 4 hours of boating that day. And mostly they enjoyed the food time with everyone.

16/02/2024- Students from the Angel Home visited the Kodimatha for boating. They had planned for the 2-hour boating for the students. And enjoy the food time with everyone and return home in the evening.

Harikrishnan Omanakuttan selected for National Level Powerlifting Championship

Mr. Harikrishnan Omanakuttan our student of St. John of God Special School got selected for the National level "Power lifting Championship" which was conducted at Palakkad on the 10th of February 2023. The sports were conducted by SOB (Special Olympics Bharath) which selects the students to participate for International Special Olympics

Day Scholars P.T.A. Meeting

The day scholars P.T.A. meeting was conducted on January 19th of 2024. The special meeting discussed the issues of fee payment and school bus fares. Other issues related to the students were also shared.

Dinner With Angels

The new initiative of Friends of John of God "Dinner with Angels" Started its official journey on the 30th of January 2023. The program was to interact with the people who are connected with the industrial, social, and health sectors of nearby panchayaths which are Ayarkunnam, Manarcad, and Pampady. The presidents of the three panchayaths were present for the program, and center director father Francis Mannaparambil welcomed all the guests, Bro. Vincent Kochamkunnel the general counsellor of hospitaller order of St. John of God had a message for the guests, Mr. Dipu John the principal of the special school shared his experience and the video presentation about the center was also projected on the screen. Following the event, there was a cultural night by the students of the special school but as a surprise, one of the guests performed a mimicry and song and that mesmerized every guest and the angels. later, the awaited dinner was served and all the guests were so happy to spend their time with our children.

Republic day Celebration

The 74th Republic Day of India was celebrated at St. John of God Centre in collaboration with Mount Mary Public School Maalam on the 26th of January 2024. The flag hosting was done by Fr. Francis Mannaparambil the director of the center by morning 7. 30 A.M. Later by 9.30 the 8th standard and 9th standard students of Mount Mary Public School arrived at the center. The students of both schools were prepared for the cultural programs and Fr. Philip the manager of Mount Mary school had given the Republic Day message. Furthermore, after the program sweets were distributed and the students of both schools interacted and it made the day special. 

VTC Shops at Ayarkunnam and Oravackal parishes feast

The Vocational Training unit of St. John of God organized shops during the festivities at Ayarkunnam and Oravackal Parishes. These shops were set up to showcase the various skills and crafts that the vocational training unit has been imparting to young adults with intellectual disabilities. The goal of these shops was to create awareness among the local community about the abilities and talents of individuals with disabilities. The shops featured a range of items such as handmade candles, soaps, and clothing, as well as various handicrafts. The response from the community was overwhelming, with many people expressing their admiration for the creativity and skill on display. The vocational training unit hopes to continue organizing such events in the future, to further promote the talents and capabilities of individuals with disabilities.

General P.T.A Meeting December 2023

The General P.T.A. Meeting of the academic year 2023-24 was held on December 23rd of 2023 at St. John of God Centre. As part of the programme, centre director Fr. Francis Mannaparambil welcomed all the parents to the event and the PTA president Mr. Sunny Joseph had the presidential address. Shri. Susheela Kuriachan the secretary of AID (Association for the Intellectually Challenged) had a beautiful session on the topic of the rights and benefits for intellectually challenged children and their relatives. Later Santa Claus arrived for the meeting and had a cake-cutting ceremony. The programme was concluded by a vote of thanks by Mr. Dipu John followed by the lunch at St. John of God Center for the children and parents. The Tharavadu home PTA meeting was conducted afternoon. 

"Candique de Noel" Christmas 2023

St. John of God Centre hosted a spirited Christmas celebration, featuring lively performances by college students, a joyful karaoke ganamela, and a hilarious skit presented by students and staff. The evening also included a festive cake cutting, a visit from Santa Claus, and speeches highlighting the true meaning of Christmas. Moreover, carol through all the homes inside the campus was done at 22nd of December 2023 by the students and staff. Later, A Christmas DJ & fireworks were also followed the day. The event wrapped up with a warm sense of togetherness, creating lasting memories for all who attended.

World Disability Day & AIDS Day Celebrations

The world disability day of 2023 was celebrated at St. John of God Center on 1st December 2023. The program was organised by the teacher trainees of St. John of God College of Special Education. The kids were welcomed by clipping a ribbon as part of AIDS day and the program started by the college students. A variety of games were prepared for our children. Furthermore, the team from college prepared a banner and washable paints for the children to put their palm signatures and the banner was published in the nearby junctions of St. John of God Centre which are Annadivayal and Maalam bus stops. Overall the children had a special evening and they were the special guest for this program. 

Grand Finale and Prize Distribution Conclude the 14th Brother Forthunathus Memorial All Kerala Inter-Special School Football Tournament

The 14th Brother Forthunathus Memorial All Kerala Inter-Special School Football Tournament culminated in a spectacular finale at the St. John of God Special School Ground in Velloor, Kottayam. The final day was filled with excitement as the remaining matches unfolded, showcasing the extraordinary skills and determination of differently-abled athletes. The day was not only marked by the competitive spirit on the field but also by moments of unity, friendship, and shared passion for the beautiful game.
One of the highlights of the concluding day was the announcement of cash prizes for the deserving winners. In the Higher Ability category, Ansar Special School from Thrissur claimed the top spot, securing a generous cash prize. Cotholongo Special School from Wayanad and Carmal Jyothi from Idukki, the 2nd and 3rd Prize winners respectively, were also rewarded for their outstanding performances. In the Lower Ability category, Fr. Tezza from Wayanad, the 1st Prize winner, received a well-deserved cash prize. Ashanilayam from Ponkunnam, Kottayam, and Snehadeepthy from Mannuthy, Thrissur, the 2nd and 3rd Prize winners, were also honored with cash rewards for their remarkable achievements.
The final ceremony was a grand affair, attended by esteemed dignitaries who graced the occasion with their presence. The proceedings began with a Welcome Speech by Father Francis Mannaparambil, the Director of St. John of God Centre. His words reflected gratitude for the participants, organizers, and sponsors, acknowledging the collective effort that made the tournament a success. The Presidential Address was delivered by Reverend Fr. Roy Vadakkel, Chairman of the Association for the Intellectually Disabled. Fr. Antony Kizhakkeveettil, the Vicar of Ayarkkunnam Parish, and Mr. Baby Thomas, Vice President of the Parents Association for the Intellectually Disabled in Kottayam, extended their felicitations to the participants and organizers. Sri. Sussamma Baby, Vice President of the P.T.A., added a touch of parental pride and encouragement to the event. The Vote of Thanks was expressed by Mr. Dipu John, the Principal of St. John of God Special School, who conveyed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the tournament.

14th Brother Forthunathus Memorial All Kerala Inter Special School Football Tournament

The St. John of God Special School Ground in Velloor, Kottayam, came alive with vibrant colors, enthusiastic cheers, and a spirit of camaraderie as the 14th Brother Forthunathus Memorial All Kerala Inter-Special School Football Tournament commenced on November 23, 2023. The first day of the tournament was marked by a spectacular inauguration ceremony, featuring a march past by all 27 special schools from different parts of Kerala. The ceremony was graced by dignitaries who added to the grandeur of the event. Father Francis Mannaparambil, the Center Director, extended a warm welcome to the participants, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and sportsmanship in these competitive yet collaborative tournaments. The Presidential address was delivered by Mr. Sunny Joseph, the P.T.A. President of St. John of God Special School, who expressed his gratitude and excitement for hosting this prestigious tournament.
The event was officially inaugurated by Shri. Jayaraj M. K., Chairman of Special Olympics Bharath, Kerala. Shri K. T. Chacko, Former Indian International Goalkeeper, added to the ceremonial flair by kicking off the tournament. The atmosphere was electric as players and spectators alike felt the pulse of the game intensify with the symbolic start. The opening ceremony also witnessed felicitations from distinguished guests, including Mr. Aneesh Gramattom, Panchayath Member, and Ms. Rittymol Mathew, Principal of St. John of God College of Special Education. 1 week internship from St. Johns College of nursing Kattappana

A group of 20 dedicated nursing students from St. John's Hospital Kattappana successfully completed a transformative week of volunteering at the St. John of God Special School, leaving a lasting impact on both the students and staff at the center. This week-long initiative showcased the power of community service and the invaluable contributions that volunteers can make in the lives of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The journey of this volunteering experience began with an enthusiastic welcome as the nursing students arrived at the St. John of God Special School. The students, accompanied by their faculty members, were warmly received by the school's staff and residents. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation and a sense of shared purpose.
The week kicked off with an orientation program, where the nursing students were introduced to the school's mission, history, and the various programs designed to support the residents in their growth and well-being. The orientation emphasized the significance of empathy, understanding, and inclusion in their interactions with the students, underlining the crucial role of healthcare professionals in promoting the overall health and happiness of individuals with disabilities. Throughout the week, the nursing students actively engaged with the residents in a variety of activities aimed at creating connections and meaningful experiences. Austrian Provincial and the co-workers of St. John of God visit

On November 2, 2023, St. John of God Special School in Velloor, Kerala, was graced by a visit from a delegation representing the Austrian Province of St. John of God Brothers and their dedicated co-workers. Assisi Nursing College and Labor India College Students Bring Joy to St. John of God Special School

On November 2, 2023, a group of students from Assisi Nursing College Erumely and Labor India College Marangattuppally made a heartwarming visit to St. John of God Special School. The visit brought a sense of joy and camaraderie to the special school, which serves individuals with various developmental and intellectual disabilities. The special day began with a warm welcome by the school's staff and students, as they eagerly awaited the arrival of their special guests. The visiting students were accompanied by their respective faculty members, who were equally excited to engage with the residents of St. John of God Special School. Eye Camp

Eye camp was conducted by St. John of God Centre in association with Dr. Agarwals Eye Clinic Kottayam for the intellectually challenged children of St. John of God on 1st of November 2023. The camp aimed to provide free eye check-ups and treatment to students with intellectual challenges, who may have difficulty accessing traditional healthcare services. The team of doctors and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure that each student received personalized care and attention, considering their specific needs and challenges. In addition to eye exams and treatment, the camp also provided education on proper eye care and hygiene, empowering the students to take control of their own eye health. The collaboration between St. John of God Centre and Dr. Agarwals Eye Clinic Kottayam was a testament to the power of community partnerships in promoting greater access to healthcare for all.

Late Chief Minister Oommen Chandi Remembered on His Birthday at St. John of God Special School in Kottayam

It was a day of heartfelt remembrance as the late Mr. Oommen Chandi, the former Chief Minister of Kerala, was honored on his birthday at St. John of God Special School in Kottayam. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Chandi Oommen, MLA of Puthuppally, and the son of Oommen Chandi, as friends, family, and well-wishers gathered to pay their respects to a leader known for his dedication to public service. St. John of God Special School, renowned for its commitment to the welfare of children with special needs, provided the perfect setting for the remembrance event. The atmosphere was somber yet filled with the warmth of cherished memories, as students with various disabilities joined the gathering to honor a remarkable statesman and humanitarian. Mr. Chandi Oommen, the MLA of Puthuppally and son of the late Oommen Chandi, delivered a heartfelt speech, reflecting on his father's life and legacy. He recounted his father's political journey, public service dedication, and vision for a more inclusive and progressive Kerala. It was a moment of introspection and celebration of a life well-lived. Mr. Chandi Oommen expressed his gratitude to all those who gathered to remember and honor his father's memory, highlighting the importance of carrying forward the values and principles his father stood for, particularly in the fields of education and healthcare. The event also provided an opportunity for Mr. Chandi to interact with the students and staff of the school, just as his father had done in the past. Moreover, Mr. Chandi Oommen and the political party sponsored the lunch and ate with the children. 

Dental Medical Camp

Dental Medical Camp was conducted at St. John of God Centre for the intellectually challenged students and the staff on 26th October 2023. The camp was a huge success, with over 120 students received treatment. The team from the Dental College Kottayam provided a range of services, from routine check-ups to more complex procedures such as fillings and extractions. The team worked tirelessly throughout the day, ensuring that every student received the care they needed. The aim of the dental medical camp was to provide comprehensive dental care to the intellectually challenged students who often face challenges in accessing such services. The team of dental college Kottayam consisted of experienced dentists and dental students who specialized in treating patients with special needs. The team conducted a thorough dental check-up for all the students and provided them with necessary treatments such as cleaning, fillings, and extractions. The students were also given oral hygiene instructions to maintain their dental health. The dental medical camp was a huge success, and the students were grateful for the opportunity to receive quality dental care. The team also appreciated the chance to serve the community and make a positive impact on the lives of these intellectually challenged students. Overall, the dental medical camp was a wonderful opportunity for the team from the dental college Kottayam to give back to the community and provide much-needed support to those in need.

Medical Health Check Up

The medical health checkup camp held at St. John of God Centre, Velloor was a huge success. The camp was well-organized, and the attendees were able to undergo a thorough medical examination. The Neethi Diagnostic Centre, medical team at the camp was very professional and made sure that everyone received the necessary attention.The camp was attended by people of all ages, from young children to the elderly including staff and the students. The medical team provided a wide range of services, including Heamogram,  Blood Sugar,  Lipid Profile,  Kidney Function,  Liver Function,  Urine Analysis, microscopy,  Thyroid. They also provided valuable advice on how to maintain good health.The attendees were very grateful for the opportunity to attend the health checkup camp. Many of them expressed their appreciation for the medical team and the excellent service they received. Overall, the medical health checkup camp at St. John of God Centre, Velloor was a wonderful initiative that benefited the community greatly. It served as a reminder to everyone that good health is a precious gift and that it is important to take care of ourselves to enjoy a happy and fulfilling life.

Nursing College Visit

Last week, St. John of God Centre in Velloor was visited by two nursing colleges which are the Thiruhridhaya Nursing College 3rd years from Kattampak and St. Grigorious Nursing College 3rd years from Parumala. The visit aimed to provide a firsthand experience and exposure to the nursing students, enabling them to learn and understand the best practices followed at the centre. The students were given a tour of the facility, including the homes, the physiotherapy department, the vocational training center and other facilities. They had the opportunity to interact with the students and understand their medical conditions. The staff at the centre gave an orientation on the importance of patient care, safety measures, and the various techniques used for treating intellectually challenged ones. The visit was informative and was a great learning experience for the nursing students, providing them with a unique opportunity to gain practical knowledge in their field.

Sports Meet at SFS School Ettumanoor

The sports meet for the Intellectually challenged at SFS Public School, Ettumanoor was an incredibly inspiring event. The athletes showed their determination and spirit in every competition, through different sports like running, rally against the plastic and the importance of nature protection etc. The athletes of St. John of God Special School got second prize for the rally and other prizes for different events. The event was well-organized and supported by an enthusiastic crowd, cheering on the participants with every step they took. It was a beautiful display of inclusivity and a testament to the power of sports to bring people together. Overall, the sports meet was a heartwarming experience that left everyone feeling uplifted and inspired

Director's Feast

The  feast of the director of St. John of God Centre Fr. Francis Mannapparambil was conducted on 4th October 2023 at school auditorium. The programme started by 7 P.M. and the school principal Mr. Dipu John welcomed the audience including the students of College and School. In continuation, the general counsellor of St. John of God Church Brother Vincent Kochamkunnel made the presidential address and shared the feast message. The students had prepared a video presentation for the director as part of the feast and moreover, the happiness was shared by cutting the cake and distributing. Siblings Meet 2023

Siblings meet 2023 was held at St. John of God Kottayam. Director father Francis Mannaparambil gave the welcome speech at the program held on Gandhi Jayanthi. St. John of God's Asian Councillor, Brother Vincent Kochakunnel, delivered the keynote address, and PTA President Sunny Joseph greeted the gathering. The interactive section held at the event provided an opportunity for the siblings to understand each other. Father Ephraim took a class on the importance of brotherly love. The school principal thanked the program, and the meeting ended with a love feast.

Medical Camp at St. John of God Special School

Free General Medical camp was conducted by the S.H. Hospital Nagambadam at St. John of God Special School Auditorium on 4th October 2023 from 10:00 A.M. till 12:30 P.M. The medical team mainly checked the weight and BP of the children and conducted and examination on their general issues. The medicine and Prescriptions were also given by the medical team. Special thanks to the Social workers of the centre for coordinating this program and thanks to Sacred Heart Hospital Nagampadom for your gentility to conduct a free medical camp for our children. 

College Visits for orientation

Visits from Marian College Kuttikkanam, Caritas Nursing College, and IPKAI Grace Care visited St. John of God Centre as part of their one-day visit and orientation. 83 students from Marian College,  34 from IPKAI, and 54 nursing students from Caritas visited the center and our children. They have visited the different parts of the center and enjoyed the environmental beauty of the center and the different facilities including the Swimming pool (Hydrotherapy), open gym, physiotherapy and other facilities. 

Onam Celebration 2K23

The Onam celebrations of St. John of God Centre, Velloor were conducted on the 22nd and 23rd of August 2023. The first day was for the onam games like "Kasera Kali", "Thavala Chattam", "Ball Passing" etc. The second day was a public function with Fr. Jose CMI as the chief guest which was followed by the cultural programs of the students of special schools, college special B.Ed and D.Ed students, and the staff of the center. After the public function, the Ona Sadhya was conducted and all the family members of St. John of God enjoyed the lunch. Later the Tug of War was conducted and the winners from the four groups were announced in the evening. At 8 PM there was a small DJ party at Special School. 

Onam 2k23

The Onam Celebrations of St. John of God is set to be on 22, 23 of August 2023. The first day will be commenced of Onam Games. On the second day, the onam function and cultural programs will be conducted from morning to afternoon. The Ona sadhya will take place on 23 rd of August. Later the Tug of War will be conducted after noon at school ground.

Independence Day

The 77th year of Independence of our country India was celebrated at St. John of god Centre, Velloor. The flag hosting was done by 8.40 am by Ms. Sheethal Jose who is the Chief Manager of South Indian Bank Kottayam which was followed by the independence day message. The chief guest was welcomed with the band set. The college students displayed the mass drill on the occasion. After the programs all the students got sweets from the management. All the students and teachers gathered in the auditorium and independence day cultural programs were coordinated by Mr. Victor Lazar who is the Special Physical Educator of St. John of God Special School. 

First Holy Communion of Joyal Joy

The first Holy Communion of Joyal Joy, one of our students who is residing at Angel's home of St. John of God Centre was conducted at St. John of God Chapel on the 3rd of August 2023. The family of Joyal joined and celebrated the special day with the children of St. John of God by sponsoring the dinner. 

Farewell for the 2021-23 Batch

The farewell party for the St. John of God College of Special Education D.Ed and B.Ed batch of 2021-23 was conducted on 2nd of August 2023. The Juniors of 2022-24 batch coordinated teh function. Centre director Fr. Francis Mannaparambil, College principal Ms. Rittymol Mathew, Special School Principal Mr. Dipu John, Course Coordinator Ms. Elizabeth, P.R.O. Mr. Jacob Pops and other staff members of the college shared their experience which was followed by some fun tasks for the outgoing students and DJ Party and a video presentation. 

New Batch of St. John of God College of Special Education 2023-2025

The new batch for the Special Education D.Ed and B. Ed has been started on the 1st of August, 2023. The Centre director Fr. Francis mannaparambil, College Principal Ms. Rittymol Mathew, Special School Principal Mr. Dipu John, D.Ed Course Coordinator Ms. Elizabeth, Centre P.R.O Mr. Jacob Pops, Mr. Albin A.S. Physiotherapist and other faculties joined the inauguration programme which was conducted inside the college auditorium. The parents and students attended the function and all the new students and faculties introduced themselves.

School Union Election 2k23-24

St. John of God Special School union election was conducted on the 26th of July 2023. This election was the first time which was happened in the history of St. John of God Special School. This was a different idea from the special educators and social workers to conduct an election. It was risky but still, the team conducted the special school election in a way like the normal schools. The pictures of the candidates were printed in small size and that was used for the voting. A total of 10 students participated in the election for 5 positions. Head boy, Head girl, General Secretary, Arts Club Secretary, and Sports captain were the positions. Mr. Job Rex has been selected as the Head Boy for the year 2023-24 along with Kumari Salu S Baby as the head girl, Mr. Dipu Dinu as the general Secretary, Mr. Job Biju as the sports captain, and Mr. Anil P.J as the arts club secretary. Congratulations to the newly elected members.  

P.T.A. Meeting and Election

The first P.T.A. meeting of St. John of God Special School 23-24 was conducted on 15th of July 2023. The day started with the registration of parents. The famous psychiatrist Dr Joby Scaria Elappumkal (MBBS, MRCPsych, MSc Psych, MEHDN (Neuro-Psychiatry), MIP (De addiction), CCT (UK)) who is the Medical Director and Senior Consultant Neuro Psychiatrist for Brainworks Neuro-Psychiatry Centre, Pallom, Kottayam. He works as a visiting Consultant Neuro-Psychiatrist in Indo American Hospital, Vaikom, Kerala, India and Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Trust, Manchester, UK conducted a session on "Managing challenging behaviours in people with different abilities". Later the official parents teachers meeting started at the school auditorium and discussed the opinions of the parents and the management. After the discussion the election for the executive members of the year 2023 - 2024 was also done. Mr. Sunny has been elected as the president and Mrs. Sussamma George been elected as the vice president. The Center P.R.O. Mr. Jacob Pops has been selected as the Secretary and the Vice principal Sr. Rincy as the Joint Secretary. The P.T.A. Executive consists of 15 members including the center director, school principal and VTC incharge. The meeting was completed by 1 pm and the lunch was provided in the center for the parents. 

Mar Sleeva College of Nursing Students Visit

3rd year BSc. Nursing students from Marsleeva College of Nursing, Cherpunkal visited the St. John of God Centre. School principal Mr. Dipu John and P.R.O. Mr. Jacob Pops conducted the orientation sessions. After the class, the students visited each and every corner of the center and bought some items from the Vocational Training Centre Moreover, the students were ready with some mesmerizing performances which were prepared for our children of St. John of God. Thank you for the visit and come again.

St. Johns College of Nursing Students Internship

3rd year BSc. Nursing students from St. Johns College of Nursing, Kattappana had done their 1 week of internship at St. John of God Centre, Velloor. They spend one week at the school and care service at residential homes. on the last day, they conducted a cultural program and a self-hygiene awareness class for St. John of God Special School students.

Mizhivu

The weekly Gathering of St. John of God Special School students and staff started on the 23rd of June 2023. The "Dancing Rockstars" of Menni home coordinated the cultural program by including the staff and students. Fr. Francis the director of St. John of God Centre, Velloor said every Friday there will be a weekly gathering as part of the skill development of our children and a leisure time for the staff. 

Decennial

10 years anniversary of St. John of God College of Special Education, Velloor (2013-2023) "Decennial Inauguration" was conducted on the 21st of June 2023. The program was inaugurated by the Prior General, Hospitaller Order of St.John of God- Br. Jesus Ethayo Arrondo. The event was graced with the presence of the Provincial of St. Thomas Province India Bro. George, general Counsilor Bro. Vincent Kochamkunnel and other staff and students. After the Inaugural function, a souvenir as part of the Decennial year was given to Bro. Jesus Eethayo by the center Director Fr. Francis Mannapparambil. later, cultural programs by college and special school students were conducted.

International Yoga Day

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. As part of the International Yoga day St. John of God Special School and the College of Special Education conducted Yoga together. 

Teaching Practice and Rally against Drug Use

The teaching practice of 2nd year B.Ed students of St. John of God College of Special Education started on the 12th of June 2023 and as part of the practice the trainees made many activities for the students according to the lesson plans. The students of St. John of God Special School and the teaching trainees had conducted a rally against drug use among the youth collaboratively.  

Psychologists visit for assessment

As part of publishing new disability certificates and renewal of the disability certificates, St. John of God Special School had become a center for intellectually challenged children from different places in the Kottayam District. Moreover, the students from the center also participated in the assessment. Dr. Dona, Ms. Sini, and Ms, Arpitha were the psychologists who conducted the assessments. The evaluation started at 9.45 in the morning and was completed by 3.00 in the evening of 2nd June 2023.

School re-opening 2023-24

After two months of summer vacation, all the students came back to their school with joy. The day started by welcoming all the students by the center director Fr. Francis Mannaparambil, and school principal Mr. Dipu John by distributing a crown, toffee, and balloon. After the welcoming party, the students attended classes for the new academic year. Wishing all the students a hearty welcome to our school.

One day Tour

The staffs of St. John of God Centre had conducted a one day tour as part of the one month programme. The destination was Ernakulam and all went through metro rail, water metro from highcourt junction to Vyppin and back to the starting point. The lunch was served by the tourist bus at Marine drive. Later all visited the Vallarpadam St. Mary's Pilgrimage and spend about half an hour there and visited Cherai beach as the last destination and spend for 1 hour there. Furthermore, all the destinations planned was completed and visited Annapoorna hotel for the dinner and coffee. By 7.30 pm all reached back to the centre.

One-month Programme

After the one-month leave in April, all the St. John of God staff got back to the centre for the one-month program. It started on the 8th of May and will be over by the 26th of May 2023. The staff will be having orientation sessions and different classes related to intellectually disabled individuals and personality development. The initiative includes different programmes planned for the staffs, moreover visit to the children's home will also be conducted. The inauguration was done by center director Fr. Francis Mannaparambil and school principal Mr. Dipu John.

Silver Jubilee Celebration

The most awaited Silver Jubilee Celebration of St. John of God Centre was conducted on the 30th of March 2023. Mar. Joseph Perumthottam the Arch Bishop of Changanassery Archdiocese  inaugurated the celebration. Fr. Roy Kannanchira conducted the keynote address and Brother Vincent Kochamkunnel has given the Jubilee message. Br. Benedict Nadayil Vice Provincial of St. Thomas Province India honored the ceremony with Presidential Address. The foundation stone of Early Intervention Autism Centre was blessed by Mar. Joseph Perumthottam unveiled the stone, Souvenir released by Bro. John Jung from Provincial of Korean Province. Many other political and religious leaders were present for the meeting and after that food was served as the symbol of love.
