Death of Mr. Eldhos Mathew (student)
Our student Eldhos Mathew (21 years) died on 25.04.2010 at Kolencherry Hospital. He was a student in our Vocational Training Centre since about three years. He met an accident and had severe head injury. His parents are alive. On 26th April we all staffs , students Brothers and sisters attended the funeral. Meeting on 8th May 2010 There will be meeting with the parents of the lifelong residential students on 8th May 2010 to discuss about this project. FRIENDS OF JOHN OF GOD
On 8 March 2009 during a public meeting Bro. Vincent Kochamkunnel (General Councillor) inaugurated ‘Friends of John of God’, an ‘organisation’ of people who are ready to help St. John of God Centre/School by funds, etc. on a regular basis. (See the LINK Friends of John of God.)
DCL Special School Fest, 2008
Deepika Daily and Deepika Children League conducted the 10th Special School Fest at St. John of God Centre at Velloor on 8 March 2008. The Hon’ble Kerala State Minister for PWD Mr. Mons Joseph inaugurated the fest. Students of 50 special schools in Kerala participated in different competitions. Brothers, Sisters and staff of St. John of God Centre and students from the B.Ed College, Kanjirapally organized the programme. DCMR Special School, Theekoy won the over all championship. Many dignitaries including Mr. Oommen Chandy (MLA) – the Leader of the Opposition, Kerala Legislative Assembly, Ms. Sharmila Mary Joseph – the District Collector, Kottayam, Mr. Mathew Policarp - Kottayam District Superintendent of Police, Mr. Sunil Joseph Kuzhampala – the Managing Director of Rashtra Deepika Ltd., Mr. Thomas Kunnappally – the President of Kottayam District Panchayat, Fr. Roy Kannanchira CMI, attended the meeting. The management, staff and students are proud to have had St. John of God Centre as the venue of the fest and for the successful organization of it. BEST SPECIAL SCHOOL AWARD, 2008-2009 There are 242 special schools in Kerala. St. John of God Special School was honoured as the ‘Best Special School 2008’, for its dedication and service for the cause of the mentally challenged. The Best Special School Award is given by the All Kerala Special Schools’ Association to three special schools every year. The other schools that received awards are Jaycees (Kannur) and Emmaus (Wayanad). The award was presented by Chief Justice Harun Ul Rasheed at Kaloor Renewal Centre in Ernakulam on 21 February 2009 to representatives of the Centre which included Bro. Augustine Polaprayil (founder of the St. John of God Centre), Bro. George Kizhakkekara (Director), Sr. Litty Xavier SCJG (Principal), Mr. Shaji (PTA President), Mr. Dipu John (Home Coordinator) and Brothers, Sisters, Parents, Teachers and Students.
